A 56-year-old man from Helmand, who recently graduated from a night school, plans to take part in this year’s university entrance exam, also known as Kankor.

Seyed Wali has already registered for the exam.

Speaking to Ariana News, he said he is very happy he has the opportunity to continue with his studies.

Last week the National Examinations Department started the annual exam process for Grade 12 graduates in Kabul.

Department head, Abdul Baqi Haqqani, said the entrance examination is being conducted in a transparent manner and they are trying to attract more high school graduates to the universities.

But a number of Kabul exam participants have appealed to the Islamic Emirate to allow girls to also write the exam and to allow them to get an education.

Already, 15,000 boys from Kabul city and province have written the exam – which was barred to girls.
