Five civilians were killed and 16 wounded in Kabul Airport attack on Monday afternoon, Kabul police chief Abdul Rahman Rahimi told reporters.
A suicide attacker riding a Corolla vehicle has targeted only civilians at the entrance gate of the Kabul International Airport at 12:10 pm, Rahimi said.
The site of the incident was closed by Afghan security forces, ambulances arrived in the area to take the victims to the hospital, Ariana News correspondent at the scene reported minutes after the blast.
5 people were killed and 16 others injured as a result of the explosion, injuries were taken immediately to the hospital, police official added.
Rahimi said police investigation is underway, but a Taliban spokesperson instantly claimed the responsibility for the attack.
Minutes after suicide attack in Kabul, an explosion was reported in Girishk district of southern Helmand province.
A suicide attacker has attempted to enter at the office of the Girishk district governor, Fahim Musazai district governor has confirmed.
But Mr. Musazai has escaped unharmed while they have arrested the suicide bomber alive.
“We engaged in a physical fight with the attacker after he tried to enter to the office,” Musazai said.
IEDs placed inside his shoes exploded during physical fight which injured a police, but the attacker was arrested alive, Musazai expressed.
Taliban have increased attacks across the country during the last couple of days after their leader Mullah Omar died and a new leader was chosen to replace Omar.
