A rocket fired during fighting between Afghan forces and insurgents killed at least 26 wedding guests late Wednesday in Helmand province, officials said.

Police spokesman Fareed Ahmad Obaid said the rocket struck a house in Sangin District of Helmand that wounded at least 45 people.

The injured were taken to hospital in Lashkar Gah, the provincial capital.

Sangin, in a volatile area of the Helmand valley, has been the scene of fighting between government forces and Taliban militants for the past six months since the withdrawal of US-led international forces.
