2 Senior Al-Qaeda Members Killed In Nangarhar Raid: NDS

Two members of Al-Qaeda terrorist group including Abul Bara Al-Kowaiti—most senior member of the group in Afghanistan—have been killed in eastern Nangarhar province, NDS officials reported.

The National Directorate of Security (NDS)—Afghanistan’s intelligence agency—reported Sunday that the militants were killed during a raid in Nazian district.

According to NDS officials, Abul Bara Al-Kowaiti operated in eastern Afghanistan and had very close relationship with the Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri.

Weapons, laptop computers and other documents were also seized during the raid, NDS sources said.

Unknown Gunmen Abduct Head of a Private TV in Nangarhar

Engineer Zalmay, the head of a private TV network has been kidnapped by unknown gunmen in Jalalabad city of Nangarhar, an official said on Tuesday.

Provincial governor spokesman Attaullah Khogyani told Ariana News that Engineer Zalmay, the Head of Enakas Radio and Television Network abducted in PD4 of Jalalabad city while he was on his way from office to home.

According to the official, the armed men have killed his driver after stopping his vehicle.

Mr. Zalmay was in charge of the National Radio and Television of Nangarhar, the state-run network, before the establishment of his private channel.

Nangarhar is among the volatile provinces in east of Afghanistan where both Taliban and Daesh insurgent groups are actively operating in a number of its districts.

Afghan Forces Retake Kohistan District of Faryab Province

Afghan security forces have recaptured Kohistan district of Faryab province late on Friday, an official confirmed.

Mohammad Hanif Rezai, a spokesman for the 209th military corps said that at least 33 Taliban militants including two commanders of the group were killed and 13 others wounded during an operation which was conducted for recapturing of the district.

He added that the Afghan commando forces have destroyed several bases of the insurgents and seized a large number of weapons and ammunitions.

According to the official, forces from the NATO-led Resolute Support mission also assisted the Afghan forces during the operation.

Faryab is among the insecure provinces in northern Afghanistan where the Taliban militants are actively operating in a number of its districts and usually carrying out attacks against government forces.

Taliban has not made a comment about the report yet.

Bomb Blast Targets Voter Registration Center in Jalalabad City

A bomb blast has reportedly targeted a voter registration center in the 4th Police District of Jalalabad, the capital city of the eastern Nangarhar province.

The voter registration center was established in a mosque in the area where many residential houses also located in.

“One policeman and seven civilians were wounded in the incident”, spokesperson of Nangarhar governor, Attaullah Khogyani told Ariana News.

According to the local official, the explosives had been placed in a Zarang type motorcycle and the vehicle exploded through a remote control instrument in the area.

He further noted that all the wounded people have already been transferred to the provincial hospital in Jalalabad City.
