According to the reports a residential area was targeted in Shadal Bazaar area of Achin district at around 3:00pm on Tuesday night.
Hazrat Hussain Mashreqiwal, the spokesperson for the provincial police chief said that at least 18 Daesh militants including Qari Hamza, a commander of the Daesh insurgents and a judge of the group were killed in the attack.
But Esmatullah Shinwari, a member of parliament from Nangarhar province claiming that the drone strike has struck the house of a tribal elder named Haji Raes who had just returned from Hajj.
According to Shinwari the strike took place at a time when a large number of guests and relatives were present in the house for Hajj felicitation when the drone attack took place.
“six people killed are Daesh militants, but the rest of the people killed or injured are civilians,” MP Shinwari added.
At the same time, Attaullah Khogyani, the provincial governor’s spokesman while confirming the incident told Ariana News that the operation was conducted aiming to target Daesh hideouts, but did not confirm the killed and wounded were civilians adding it will be investigated.
Achin is among the volatile districts in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan where Daesh insurgents are actively operating in a number of its areas and usually carrying out attacks against the Afghan security forces.
