13 Afghan Militia Forces Killed in Taliban Ambush in Balkh

Thirteen pro-government forces have been killed in Taliban ambush in northern Balkh province, official said Sunday.

Munir Ahmad Farhad, spokesman for the governor of  Balkh province, confirmed the incident and said the local forces were on their way to take part in a security operation which was underway in Chemtal district when they were ambushed by the Taliban.

Farhad added that additional troops have been deployed in district and are in battle with the Taliban.

The Taliban, which has increased attacks since the start of its annual spring offensive in April, claimed responsibility for the ambush.
