Pakistan Army has stopped about seven hundred Afghan goods containers for the last twenty days in Karachi and Peshawar Cities under the pretext that the goods are related to foreign forces, officials of Afghan Chamber of Commerce said.
“The goods are costing $80 million that can be destroyed by a small negligence. Despite of the efforts of Afghan Vice President, Defense and Trade & Commerce Ministries, still the problems have not been resolved, Deputy Chairman of Afghan Chamber of Commerce Khan Jan Alokozay said.
Alokozay said “the government of Pakistan has sent back the goods of US and NATO forces to Karachi City and are being loaded back to American ships while the goods related to Afghanistan are neither allowed to enter Afghanistan nor let it go again. We hope the government to solve the problems.”
Ministry of Commerce and Industries has confirmed the issue but announced the number of stopped containers 500.
“Efforts are underway to resolve the problems before the goods are diminished. The Afghan trade Minster has discussed the issue with Pakistan Interior Minister Rahman Malik, Pakistan’s trade minister and Pakistani ambassador in Kabul to seriously solve the problems, Wahidullah Ghazi Khail spokesman Commerce Ministry said.”
This is not the first time that Pakistan is stopping Afghan goods containers. Last time under various pretexts, Pakistan has stooped about three thousand Afghan containers for few months.
