The Taliban conducted a Sunday night raid in the Arghandab district of southern Zabul Province, provincial officials said.
Provincial Governor Spokesman Gul Islam Syal said that the clashes continued between the Afghan security forces and Taliban militants for five hours.
According to the sources, the attack was large in scale, involving numbers of armed militants. Over the course of an hour, the insurgents were able to reach the vicinity of administrative and police headquarters. however, the insurgents were forced to retreat after the Afghan ground forces received air support.
Speaking on the condition of anonymity a security source said the attack left 11 deaths including five policemen, three soldiers and three insurgents.
Presently, the Taliban have not issued a comment about the attack.
