US Senator Wants Transparent Afghan Election

The head of the foreign relations committee of the US Senate, Senator John Kerry of Massachusetts, says that the US expects transparent elections in Afghanistan during the upcoming 2014 presidential election.

Senator Kerry said that the US government will not interfere in Afghanistan’s internal affairs, and that the election process is the responsibility of the Afghan people.  “Afghans themselves must elect their political leaders through free and transparent elections,” he said.

The US Senator said that 2014 presidential election will be extremely important because it will establish the political power transition for Afghanistan.

As head of the US Senate Foreign Relations committee, he stated, “I bring a strong message that the US a strong supporter of a perfectly transparent political process in Afghanistan which will save everyone’s rights, especially those of women and minorities.  Transparency in the voter registration process will be one measurement that will demonstrate that Afghan’s can independently exercise their vote.

Proper security is one of the chief concerns that political experts–especially officials of the Independent Election Commission—point to as being key to bringing about a fair and transparent election to all provinces of Afghanistan.
