US handed over Bagram Prison’s control to Afghan Government

After 11 years of holding Bagram jail, US has handed over the control to Afghan Government. In an official ceremony arranged for this event, Afghan Government took the complete responsibility and control of Bagram detention on Monday.
According to Afghan local officials the complete hand over of Bagram jail is positive step towards the National sovereignty and fortifying of Afghan security forces in the country.
Bagram Prison agreement was signed between NATO and Afghan Government six months ago. Based on the agreement, once all the detainees is handed over to Afghanistan, the international forces will not hold or retain any prison in Afghanistan.
The US troops General Commander while handing over the responsibility demanded Afghan security forces to have good grasp and control of the jail and prisoners.
The General added, “We transferred over 3000 prisoners to Afghan forces “ and we hope you don’t’ let them rejoin the Taliban ranks.
There are total 3862 Prisons in Bagram Prison. Afghan Government received 3082 Prisoners and the remaining 600 will be handed over in next few weeks.
