Unfair Presidential elections will cause instability: Massoud

Sun Jul 15, 12:55 pm

If the upcoming Presidential election is not transparent, Afghanistan will become destabilized, the Afghanistan National Front (ANF) has warned.

ANF leader Ahmad Zia Massoud urged that the voting process must be held with high transparency and without fraud or other violations in order to allow people to have a legitimate national government.

He said the transparent elections will help bring political and security stabilities and will also provide improvement in social and economic sectors.

Emphasizing its previous stance regarding the change in government system, Massoud said a federal government system will help to remove existing gaps in the communities and will also help to strengthen ‘National Unity’.

For a considerable period of time, the National Front has sought changes in the government system, but the government decries the ANF suggestion, saying currently Afghanistan is not ready for such a change because such changes would in fact cause instability and would cause the country to fracture along ethnic and tribal lines.

Two years remain before for the next Presidential election.  Political parties are expressing fears about the lack of transparency in the past elections.

Afghanistan National Front (ANF) is a powerful opposition party of the government. Ex-Jihadi leaders and some ethnic political parties make up the leadership of the ANF.

ANF has said it has strong intentions of winning the 2014 Presidential elections.
