Ashton Carter, the U.S. Deputy Secretary of Defense, and NATO General Commander in Afghanistan John Allen on Wednesday met with President Karzai to apologize to the Afghan President and entire Afghan nation for the desecration of the Holy Quran by U.S. Soldiers.
During the meeting, President Hamid Karzai asked NATO General Commander John Allen to cooperate with the Afghan government delegation as they review the issue of burning the Quran materials at the Bagram prison.
President Karzai stressed the importance of a speedy transfer of the Bagram prison control to the Afghan government. The President said, “Transfer of the control of Bagram prison would prevent the occurrence of such incidents to a large extent.”
