Tight security measures have been taken for Nawroz (New Year) celebrations following the high threats of disruptions, Balkh security officials said.
Governor of Balkh province Atta Muhammad Noor said hundreds of Army soldiers, police forces and NDS officials that will also be supported by Air Force have been assigned inside and around Mazar-i-Sharif City for implementing better security during new solar year celebrations.
“Although the enemies seek to disrupt these celebrations in Mazar-i-Sharif, the security forces are fully alert and won’t allow any insurgency in the city,” said Governor Noor.
The Governor of Balkh has demanded that all citizens, guests, and even senior government officials not enter the city with weapons. Any who are carrying weapons will be asked to temporarily hand them over to the security forces at checkpoints.
Meanwhile Pamir corps commander Gen. Baba Jan said additional troops have been deployed to the main roads and highways to provide safety to the citizens.
Every year Mazar-i-Sharif City holds new solar year “Nawroz” special celebrations. Thousands of Afghan citizens and tourists from neighboring countries attend this biggest New Year festival of Afghanistan.
