Senate emphasizes on Afghan-led peace negotiations

A number of Mishrano Jirga (Senate) members emphasized on peace talks with armed oppositions to be led by the Afghan government or Afghan Supreme Peace Council.
The Afghan Senators in a general session yesterday told that if the peace negotiations not led by the Afghan government, the international community will repeat their nineties mistakes.
“During the peace negotiations with anti-government armed oppositions, the last ten-year achievements should be protected, Afghan constitution must be respected and the rights of women and minorities should not be trampled” the senators said.
The senators also expressed concerns over the security transition process and claimed that international community has not acted on their promises while the implementation of first phase of security transition.
“The security responsibilities are transferred to the Afghan forces in such a time where these ANA forces are not well equipped to better defend their territory and if these national forces are not provided more attention, the transition process would fail” the senators added.
The senators also said currently Afghanistan is not prepared for the federal system and this step can cause disintegration of Afghanistan.
