The residents of northern Sar-i-Pul province have protested for several consecutive days to try to force the removal of Sar-i-Pul’s Governor.
The assigned Parliamentary commission to Sar-i-Pul province says their investigation shows that the Sar-i-Pul residents want the dismissal of their Governor but could not identify political factors causing these protests.
Parliamentary commission Chief Mirdad Nijrabi spoke with many of the thousands of protestor that have gathered in a local sports stadium, and reported that people were angry with the Governor and demanded his removal. They also want the government to follow-up on the charges that have been leveled against him.
The parliamentary delegation also visited Provincial Council members, former jihad commanders, and tribal elders in Sar-i-Pul province.
The commission said that they will deliver their investigation results to Parliament and hope that government officials will pay serious attention to the demands of Sar-i-Pul residents.
Sar-i-Pul Governor Syed Anwar Rahmati denies the charges against him and says that the protests are the conspiracies made by the political parties.
