Wed Feb 08, 1:56 pm

The Afghan Foreign Ministry says that without clear understandings between the Afghan government and Qatar, opening of an office for Taliban is impossible.

Janan Musazai; the spokesperson of Foreign Ministry said the peace talks with Taliban are in the initial stages and the opening of Taliban’s office requires further discussions.

These statements are expressed at a time when some media outlets have reported that a Taliban office has already been opened in Qatar.   According to the Foreign Ministry, an office has not been opened yet by the Taliban.

While talking about the visit of Pakistani PM Yusuf Raza Gilani to Qatar to discuss the Afghan peace talks, Mr. Janan Musazai said “Pakistan can have an important role in Afghan reconciliation process if it serves with sincerity.”

During this month, the Afghan President Hamid Karzai is expected to visit Islamabad to discuss the Afghan peace process with Pakistani officials, Janan Musazai added.

Recently Pakistani PM Yusaf Raza Gillani, during his Qatar visit said that Qatar can play an important role in the Afghan peace talks.  He emphasized that Pakistan will support the Afghan led peace talks, and stated that they won’t intervene in the issue.
