New Commission assigned to protect journalist’s rights

Afghanistan Independent Lawyers Association supports ten-year achievements of Afghan Media to ensure justice and law enforcement in Afghan society.

Rohullah Qarizada; Head of Independent Lawyers Association considers newly assigned commission very effective for media rights and a reliable source to defend freedom of speech in Afghanistan.

Mr. Qarizada said from now the commission will pursue the case of journalists or media personnel, who are faced with problems.

Similarly, he said the Lawyers Association would open regional offices in the provinces in order to defend media legally.

Meanwhile, Ministry officials of Information and Culture also called media commission an effective step to defend media rights.

The Ministry officials also said that they are working on new regulations to ensure journalist’s rights and will be implemented soon after its approval by council of Ministers.

While, Afghan government considers international media development and freedom of speech as a major achievement during the last ten years but government has been unable to  create a working impunity for  journalists and media professionals.

According to officials, some media supporting institutions accused government officials for involvement in some cases of violence against journalists.
