NDS forces killed 5 insurgents and wounded another near Poli Charkha prison near the outskirts of Kabul City.
The slain insurgents were in a partially constructed house in a small compound in Haji Janat Gul village. They had apparently been planning to launch terrorist attacks on Kabul City in the near future.
The operation of the NDS occurred Thursday morning August 2nd after NDS forces received intelligence reports that insurgents were in the building stockpiling weapons and suicide bombs and planning attacks on unknown hotels and other locations in Kabul.
During a gun battle 5 insurgents were killed and 3 escaped. One of the insurgents that escaped was wounded by gunfire that reportedly lasted for five hours. There were no casualties among the NDS forces or among the Afghan civilians that live in the area.
An NDS official who was involved in the conflict said three insurgents were killed by gunfire while two others detonated explosive materials and killed themselves.
According to reports three vehicles were loaded with weapons including large caliber machine guns rounds, rocket launchers, ammunition, and hand grenades. Several suicide vests were also seized by NDS at the crime scene. “They planned to mount mass attacks in different parts of Kabul after reaching their assault locations wearing burqas,” the NDS said in a statement.
Though ANA Police Forces were not involved in the operation, Seddiq Seddiqi the spokesperson for the Ministry of Interior Affairs believes killing 5 insurgents and wounding another before they could carry out their murderous plans was a major achievement.
Authorities said that they had thwarted a mass attack and captured evidence that points to the Haqqani network based in Pakistan.
