MP’s were not convinced with Ministers’ explanations

Tue Feb 21, 2:45 pm

The Ministers of Justice, Hajj and Islamic Affairs, Migration and Refugees Repatriation and the Acting Minister of Transport and Civil Aviation were summoned to the Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of the Parliament) to brief members on the budget spending.

The ministers were impeached and asked to brief parliament on the reasons they couldn’t utilize 40% of their development budgets.  The ministers claimed that, “despite the insecurity in some of the regions and intervention by government officials during the administration of the projects, we were able to utilize more than 40% of the development budgets.”

Last year’s final report by the Finance Ministry is contrary to the statements of these ministers. Chief of Budget and Treasury department of Finance Ministry, Javed Jalai said, “the last year’s financial statement of the Finance Ministry had no mistakes but sometimes the donor countries could not pay their pledged amounts on time.”

The summoned Ministers did not provide satisfactory answers to the Assembly members and the representatives finally decided that after impeaching all those ministers who failed to spend forty percent of their development budgets, they will handle the problems between the Finance Ministry report and the figures by the relevant ministries.
