Most productive factories in Kandahar are inactive

Kandahar local officials said that besides people’s economy, the insecurity will also be declined if industrial parks and productive factories are activated in Kandahar province.
However, large areas has been dedicated for Industrial Parks in Shor Andam and investors have constructed 140 productive factories but 66 of these factories have some activities and the remaining have no activities.
Investors said that the lack of electricity and capabilities are main problems in the closure of these factories.
According to Afghanistan rules and regulations, foreigners can only be employed in Afghanistan if they have educational certificate, they said.
In addition, they said that the Afghan investors are not in position to approach the high demands of these foreigners.
Meanwhile, these investors said that lack of marketing and high taxes are other reasons for the closure of factories.
Asadullah, Head of Kandahar Industrial Parks also confirmed these problems and said that government has not issued any regulation for the employment of foreigners in Afghanistan. He added that economic problems of Kandahar residents that have been affected by poppy cultivation can be solve through industries and agriculture.
According to him, currently two thousand and five hundred people are working in Kandahar industrial parks and about million others will be given jobs opportunity if all factories are activated.
