Increase in polio disease in South Afghanistan

Tue Nov 29, 12:23 pm

Polio or poliomyelitis cases in the South Afghanistan doubled than past, Kandahar health officials said.

Head of Kandahar Public Health Department Abdul Qayum Pekhla in the opening ceremony of Polio vaccination campaign said that 26 polio cases are reported in Kandahar and 7 other same cases in remote areas.

Low level of people’s awareness and lack of workers’ access to remote workers are the cause of polio diseases in the province, he added.

According to him, more than one million children will be vaccinated within five years in Kandahar Province.

He demanded the influential people and provincial elders to support the health workers in vaccination of children.
