Wed Feb 22, 2:10 pm

The European Chamber of Commerce and Industries for the first time opened a branch in Kabul. Officials said it would be an opportunity for the EU investors to invest in Afghanistan.

The Afghan Minister of Commerce and Industries; Anwar-ul-Haq Ahadi said “the opening of the EU Chamber of Commerce Office shows the confidence of the EU investors in Afghanistan’s economic future and its business programs.”

He said, “The European Union has been financially supporting Afghanistan during the last ten years but the EU private sector so far has not invested in this country as it was expected.”

Mr. Ahadi added that the liberal economic system of Afghanistan has provided many facilities for the private sector’s investment needs.

Meanwhile the EU Ambassador to Afghanistan, Vygaudas Usackas, said, “After the Afghan government announced their plans at the second Bonn Conference, the European Union decided to further support these programs.”

“We requested to open a branch of European Chamber of Commerce and Industries in Kabul so that we could create a new relationship between the EU member countries and Afghanistan.  This will help to improve the economic situation of this country” Vygaudas Usackas said. “The European Chamber of Commerce and Industries supports the trade and long-term objectives of Afghanistan that was announced at the Bonn Conference,” he added.
