Cross-border attacks continue in Kunar

Sun Sep 23, 2:19 pm

Local officials of eastern Kunar province say the Pakistan military’s forces have continued to lob artillery shells into the province, and that the shelling has actually intensified.

Over the past 24 hours, Pakistan has fired more than 70 missiles into Dangam and Sarkano districts, according to the governor of Kunar, Syed Fazlullah Wahidi.

He added that the most recent attacks have left hefty financial losses to the residents of two districts.

The latest attacks came two days after Afghanistan’s foreign minister Zulmai Rassoul expressed concerns from the government and the people of Afghanistan over the continued aggression of Pakistan.

Despite wide efforts of the Afghan government at national and international levels to halt the attacks, still the incursion continues.

The residents of eastern border areas have repeatedly complained that the attacks have disrupted their routine lives, and they have no choice but to ask the government for adversarial action.

They have repeatedly said that they are ready to stand side-by-side with the security forces to defend their soil.

But the Afghan government emphasizes that they must rely on diplomatic channels to resolve the matter.
