AIHRC hopes Afghan-US pact helps protect Human Rights

Wed May 09, 12:36 pm

The Afghanistan Independent Human Rights Commission (AIHRC) officials said because criminals are not punished, the violation of human rights and violence against women has increased in Afghanistan.

AIHRC Chief Dr. Sima Samar said that despite the fact that civilian causalities had dropped in the country, the violence against women, people’s harassment by powerful people and land usurpations by mafia groups were still important issues that have not yet been resolved in favor of the Afghan people .

Referring to a long-term cooperation agreement between Kabul and Washington, AIHRC Chief said the alliance would help in protecting the human’s rights in Afghanistan.

These statements were expressed in reaction to the recent tribal conflicts and land confiscations in eastern province of Nangarhar.
