Afghanistan seeks equality in international aid: Barmak

Wed May 09, 12:31 pm

The Afghan Minister of Rural Rehabilitation and Development during a press conference with UN representative demanded balance in international aid to the humanitarian, security and governance sectors of Afghanistan.

The Afghan Minister Wais Ahmad Barmak, while referring to poverty and the humanitarian situation in Afghanistan, said that he wanted the international community to create a balance in its aid to the country.

The UN humanitarian chief Valerie Amos, who has visited Kabul to study the humanitarian condition in Afghanistan, said the United Nations wants to increase the capacity of various sectors of Afghan government to address the disaster-affected people in that country.

She said insecurity was the biggest challenge to their efforts.

“In fact, the insecurity is the biggest challenge in the humanitarian environment. We demand the people of Afghanistan to cooperate with the government and security forces in implementation of security in the country,” UN humanitarian chief said.

Occurrence of floods, avalanches, droughts and earthquakes are natural disasters which the people of Afghanistan are also suffering from.
