A senior Taliban member detained in Kandahar

A high-level Taliban member along with a large amount of explosives was arrested in Spin-Boldak district of southern Kandahar province, security officials said.

Kandahar National Directorate of Security (NDS) officials said the detainee, Mullah Abdul Bari, was leading the Taliban group in Kandahar and was the in charge of Taliban supply.

According to NDS sources, Mullah Abdul Bari was the member of Mullah Abdullah group and was arrested from Spin-Boldak district with a car full packed with explosives.

Kandahar Governor Toryalai Wissa said the security forces were capable of foiling any insurgency activities in the country.

This arrest comes as recently about two days ago 5 insurgents including two Pakistanis were arrested with a large amount of explosives in Kabul.

The security measures have been tightened across the country after the series of coordinated attacks on last Sunday in Kabul and other provinces of Afghanistan.
