Local authorities of southern Helmand province say about 85 reconstruction projects were completed last year in the province.
The projects of DDP (District Delivery Program) costing $ 6.5 million dollars were funded by the UK, governor Haji Muhammad Naeem said.
He stated that of the 65 implemented projects, 21 projects were executed in the education sector, 18 in the health sector, 11 in the agriculture sector, 19 for rural development and 16 other projects were done for water supply systems.
Governor Muhammad Naeem mentioned the projects were carried out in the districts of Musa Qala, Sangin, Greshk, Nad Ali, Nawa, Marja and Garamser.
The DDP projects launched in 2010 and will keep going into the future, Naeem said.
“There will be a number of projects implemented this year in Helmand. 75 percent of these projects will be in the fields of good governance while the remaining will be in development areas.”
These projects must be monitored in order to ensure quality and prevent embezzlement of funds, Helmand Appellate Prosecutor Abdul Samad Siddequi urged.
He added that so far, many projects have been implemented in a minimum amount of time but with low quality.
