8 killed, over 70 injured in protests over Quran desecration

At least 8 people were killed and more than 70 others injured during countrywide protests against the desecration of Holy Quran at Bagram Airbase.
The ongoing protests entered the fifth day in Sar-i-Pul, Kundoz, Laghman and eastern Nangarhar provinces. The protestors chanted anti-American slogans and demanded severe punishment for the perpetrators of Quran burning.
American officials have apologized several times to the people of Afghanistan for the desecration of the Holy Quran. Protestors continue to demand that those responsible be prosecuted.
Yesterday’s protests targeted a UNAMA office and NATO military bases in northern Kundoz province. In Laghman and Nangarhar provinces hundreds continued to protest. During the protests 23 people were injured, including three members of Afghan security forces who were trying to calm the protesters.
In Sar-i-Pul province, the protests began peacefully. The protestors condemned the Quran desecration by foreign forces and demanded strong punishment for the perpetrators of the incident.
