Tue Jun 19, 12:09 pm

At least six people were killed and three others wounded during two separate but similar attacks in eastern province of Laghman.

The groom among 5 was killed and one another injured after the armed men attacked a wedding party in Mehtarlam city, the provincial capital of eastern Laghman.

Some unidentified armed people attacked a wedding party Sunday night, held in Khoshal’s home in Shergar village, killing the groom, his father, two brothers and his nephew and injuring one other, deputy head of the provincial council, Gulzar Sangarwal said.

He said the incident took place soon after the bride arrived in her new home.

Meanwhile, in another incident, unknown armed men opened gunshots on a wedding car in the Besram area of Mehtarlam, killing a man and injuring two others, Sangarwal added.

Ignoring the Besram incident, the spokesman of Laghman Governor Sarhadi Zowak confirmed the attack on a wedding party in Shergar village, saying only three people were killed and one other injured in that incident.

He said investigations and search operations were underway but so far, no one has been arrested in connection to the deadly incident. He added so far, no group has claimed responsibility for the attack on wedding party.

The residents of Mehtarlam city say the mysterious murders have been intensified in the province after the security responsibilities Mehtarlam were handed over to the Afghan forces.
