National Directorate of Security (NDS), Afghanistan’s intelligence agency, reports that 5 planned suicide bombings were recently prevented, saying 15 others were detained in connection to the terrorist activities.
NDS spokesman Lutfullah Mashal told a news conference Tuesday that the suspects were captured by the NDS officials. He said the suspects had planned to carry out attacks in Kabul, Logar and Nangahar provinces.
Getting the support of regional spy agencies, the suspects had entered Afghanistan through Pakistan, Mashal told the reporters.
The enemies were trying to overshadow the NATO summit in Chicago, Mashal stated during the news conference. “The insurgents wanted to make their attacks the headlines of the world media instead of publishing Chicago summit’s news,” Mashal said during reporting about the thwart of insurgent activities.
The NDS spokesman told media the insurgents during their spring offensive were mainly focusing on propaganda and psychological wars.
Poisoning students in Khost and Takhar provinces were some of the other spring tactics of the anti-government armed militants, Mashal said.
