3 Italian soldiers killed in Herat

Three Italian soldiers have reportedly been killed in a traffic accident in Shindand district of western Herat Province.
ISAF troops in a statement confirmed the death of 3 soldiers in Western Afghanistan. The ISAF statement does not specify the identity of the soldiers and the exact location of the incident.
Abdul Raouf Ahmadi; the spokesman of regional police in western Afghanistan said, “While surveying the Shindand district, 3 Italian soldiers were killed after their tank overturned.”
According to another report, “A Turkish engineer and his translator have been kidnapped by unidentified gunmen from Shindand district of western Herat province”.
Herat Governor, Dawood Saba, while confirming the kidnapping of a Turkish engineer and a translator said, “These two people went to the Shindand district without coordinating with the security agencies and so far we have no information about them.”
This is the first case of foreigner’s abduction after the implementation of second phase of security transition in this province.
Although the security situation has improved during last few months, Herat residents are still concerned about kidnappings. The Governor responded that kidnapping incidents have declined in the province.
