3 killed, 28 wounded in Kabul gas cylinder blast

Tue Jul 03, 2:29 pm

At least three people have been killed and 28 others wounded, mostly burned, after a gas cylinder exploded in the Khairkhana district of Kabul.

The incident happened around 12pm Tuesday at a Shamshad market close to the Parwan Hotel in Khairkhana.  Reports say the market caught fire from the explosion.

The head of Kabul crime investigation department, Muhammad Zahir, has confirmed the incident was a gas cylinder blast, killing 3 and wounding 28 others.  Officials believe the blast was the result of an industrial accident and not an insurgent attack.

Initially, the blast was assumed to have been a suicide attack since recently a hotel in Qargha Lake was attacked by armed rebels, in which a number of civilians were killed.
