2 civilians killed in Afghan and NATO operation in Laghman

Although, the security responsibility of Qargahi district of eastern Laghman province were officially handed over to the Afghan security forces, but the Afghan and NATO forces once more launched joint operation in mentioned district.  Two civilians were killed and seven other were detained during the operation.

According to eye witnesses, foreign forces had raided in Qargahi district on 1st May late night and entered two local residential homes. They locked the women and children in one room, killed two civilians and detained seven of their guests, who are local residents, they added.

Following the incidents, local residents protested, while transferring the death bodies with themselves and blocked Kabul-Jalalabad Highway for hours.

While protesting against America and the governor of Laghman, the protestors warned that they will continue their protests till the release of the detainees.

Meanwhile, Mr. Sarhadi Zawak, the spokesman of Laghman governor said, Special Forces has not caused any causality to the local residents, during the operation.

ISAF forces in eastern Afghanistan also issued a release that says, two anti-government militants were killed and seven others were detained during that operation. No civilians were harmed during the operations, the release added.

On the other hand, Qari Mir Hatim, the head of Laghman provincial council says, the killed and detained people are local residents.
