Doha meeting on Afghanistan to focus on private sector, finance, banking, drugs: IEA

An official of the Islamic Emirate said on Friday that the discussions of the third Doha meeting on Afghanistan will focus on private sector, financial, banking, counter-narcotics and alternative livelihood issues.

Zakir Jalali, Director of the Third Political Division of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Afghanistan, said on X that this time, unlike in the past, the conditions for the participation of the delegation of the Islamic Emirate in the Doha meeting have improved.

He added that in this meeting, the special envoys of some countries for Afghanistan will hold discussions under the auspicious of the Deputy Secretary General of the United Nations.

Jalali stated that it is not yet clear at what level the Islamic Emirate will participate in the meeting.

He emphasized that the Afghan government favors constructive engagement with Western countries, as other countries in the region.

The third Doha meeting on Afghanistan is scheduled to be held on June 30 under the auspices of the United Nations.

Pakistan's Prime Minister Shehbaz Sharif on Friday called on the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) to take effective action to neutralize terrorist groups.

Speaking at the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly in New York, Sharif claimed that Daesh-Khorasan, Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP), Eastern Turkistan Islamic Movement (ETIM), Islamic Movement of Uzbekistan and Ansarullah have a presence in Afghanistan.

He also said that Pakistan seeks the earliest possible normalization of the situation in Afghanistan.

Sharif called on the Islamic Emirate to respect human rights, including the rights of women and girls, and promote political inclusion.

The Islamic Emirate has previously denied the presence of terrorist groups in Afghanistan and has always emphasized that it does not allow Afghanistan's soil to be used against other countries.

The Islamic Emirate has also said that the rights of women and girls are ensured according to Sharia and the government is inclusive.

Top officials of Russia, China, Iran and Pakistan met on Friday on the sidelines of the 79th session of the UN General Assembly in New York to discuss Afghanistan.

Russian foreign ministry said in a statement that the parties compared their approaches to the Afghanistan settlement.

They also underscored that there was "no alternative to establishing mutually respectful dialogue and partnership relations with the current authorities of Afghanistan," according to the statement.

It was the third foreign ministerial meeting of the regional quartet on Afghanistan. Pakistan was represented by its defense minister Khawaja Asif.

IEA’s minister of mines attends international energy forum in Russia

Acting Minister of Mines and Petroleum Hedayatullah Badri attended the 7th Russian Energy Week International Forum in Moscow on Friday, the ministry's spokesman Homayoun Afghan said.

Homayoun Afghan said in a post on X that Badri participated in this international forum, which was held in Moscow with the presence of Russian President Vladimir Putin, high-ranking officials of the energy sector of 55 countries, and many officials of huge energy, oil and gas companies.

In this forum, Badri met with the representatives of Trans-Oil Group, Gazprom, Ural Turbine and invited them to invest in Afghanistan's oil and gas.

On Wednesday, Hedayatullah Badri and his accompanying delegation left for Russia to attend this forum. They will stay in Moscow for three days from September 26 to 28.
