Afghan security forces have taken control of Nawa district of southern Helmand province, following the two days large-scale clearance operation against the Taliban insurgents in the district, the Defense Ministry said in a statement Monday.
The district was seized on Monday morning at about 09:30 a.m., the statement said.
The statement added that the operation which was conducted from two (south and north) directions in the district, left at least 54 insurgents dead and six wounded.
It comes as the volatile Helmand’s Nawa district was under control of the Taliban since October 2016.
The Taliban did not comment on the report.
